Housing Resources Center
1988 Neighborhood Preservation and Development Established
1988 - CLUSTER Establishes a New Neighborhood Preservation and Development Program
In response to worsening slum and blight in the area, CLUSTER sets up the Housing Resource Center in Southwest Yonkers. A bi-lingual staff provides a unique tonic of legal assistance, advocacy, tenant education and organizing assistance to begin reversing the area’s deterioration.
17 years later, we have helped thousands of area residents avoid the loss of their homes and to improve their buildings and neighborhoods. We serve close to 1500 households annually, providing eviction prevention assistance, a telephone housing consulting hotline, assistance for abandoned buildings and housing emergencies, technical support for tenant and neighborhood associations, and community education on a wide range of housing issues.
